About the Art “Gathering”

The Historic Kirtland Art Gathering is an initiative in the Kirtland Ohio Stake to inspire artists to preserve faith-promoting Kirtland stories, while increasing the community and church members’ understanding of the vital role Kirtland played in the establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Stories are featured on this site under the tab “Historical Stories for Artwork” for artists to read and illustrate.

Art will be gathered and hung in the upstairs room of the Historic Kirtland Visitors Center on dates listed under “Submission Information” starting June 1, and be displayed during the summer tourist season. An awards ceremony will be held on September 16, 2017 at 5:30.

We encourage you to prayerfully select one of the stories on this site, or in your heritage, and use your talents to illustrate and depict the people and setting that formed these examples of faith.

All ages and art styles are welcome.  Art will be selected and displayed in the Historic Kirtland Visitor Center from June 2017-October 2017. Art chosen will be from the following three categories: Primary, Youth, and Adult, and will be photographed and considered for other uses.
